Description

Throw off the shackles of competition and play Cooperative Chess with friends instead! Can you meld minds and thwart everything thrown in your way to complete a totally perfectly normal game of chess?

Co-op Chess is pretty much what it sounds like, two players play as black and white in a game of chess but instead of competing against each other, you’re cooperating. The only goal is to complete a game of chess. BUT you have to satisfy random requirements periodically or you instantly lose instead. AND you and your collaborator have to choose moves simultaneously and aren’t supposed to give exact information about what your planned moves are.

History

Cooperative Chess is part of what has retroactively been termed a "molasses jam" run by the Bay Area Dev Collective. The theme of the jam was to make a violent genre non-violent. Somehow the idea of co-op chess came up during a brainstorming session, and I immediately knew that I had to make it work.
